What we care about

Sustainable Living Environments

Sustainability starts with the way a place is conceived, specified, built and used. It should be expressed through decisions that can be explained and assessed.

Design around everyday life

Comfort, access, useful shared spaces and the relationship between indoor and outdoor environments all influence how a place serves its users. We seek to bring these questions into the brief early, alongside the technical and commercial requirements of the development.

Consider resources over time

Material suitability, durability, maintenance access and adaptability should be evaluated together. Initial cost alone does not describe a building’s life. A project may also need to consider operational demand, replacement cycles, construction waste and the potential to accommodate future change.

  • Assess material choices against function, durability and available evidence.
  • Plan resource and waste management around the construction scope.
  • Consider maintenance, operation and future adaptation in design reviews.

Define objectives before making claims

Environmental objectives need a defined scope, a basis for assessment and an agreed way of reviewing progress. Where calculations, specialist assessments or certification are required, these must be separately commissioned and evidenced. We do not treat architectural imagery or a design aspiration as proof of environmental performance.

Developing Tomorrow

A sustainable ambition becomes useful when it is translated into clear project requirements.
